Hillside’s crackdown on bars after brawls, a gunfight and the murder of a departing patron in the past year continued this week with a new round of liquor-license suspensions.

The Ranch Bar & Grill, which has been the subject of complaints by neighboring residents for more than a year, on Monday agreed to a 20-day license suspension beginning May 28 rather than fight the action before the municipal Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

In March, the Liberty Avenue establishment’s license was suspended for 10 days after a brawl.

Also on Monday, Half Time Sports Bar on Bloy Street accepted a five-day license suspension beginning May 21, opting not to have an ABC board hearing.

At a previous board hearing, Old Manhattan sports and karaoke bar accepted a five-day suspension, effective June 19 to 23.

In other action regarding bars, the township council on Tuesday raised the liquor license fee a maximum 20 percent to $984 annually.

Since neither Stroud nor Bates managed to achieve that margin of victory, they will have to square off against one another again in a runoff election on June 12.     Although neither Stroud nor Bates could be reached for comment Tuesday night, at least one other victor in that election spoke about the results.
